This is a tale as old as time. Many parents of today are still having a hard time getting their children to consume more fruits and vegetables. It helps to understand that kids’ aversion to sour or bitter taste is a trait inherited from our ancestors (sour and bitter are some common characteristics of poisonous food). So, yeah, it’s kind of embedded in our DNA.
In the US alone, despite many existing recommendations and guidelines to encourage the consumption of more fruits and vegetables, national estimates from 2007-2010 that only 40% of children aged 1-18 meet the intake recommendation Full copy of report here.
What can we do about it, then? Well, we can try different ways to encourage them to incorporate healthy food in their diets through some tried-and-tested health hacks than you can easily try with your kids. One concept that many people swear by is by introducing kids to the wonderful world of juicing. Juicing is the most convenient way of making sure your kids get the maximum nutrition from quite an amount of fruits and vegetables in just one serving.
Imagine having all of this, turn into this:
Here are some health hacks on how to enjoy juicing with your kids.
SPARK THEIR CURIOSITY

Children like to ask questions and it is in their formative years that they start exploring ideas and this is the perfect time to get them interested with how chopped fruits and vegetables turn into sweet-tasting, colorful juice – “It really looks like magic!” You can ask them to help you pick fruits and veggies and let them see with their own eyes how the juicer turns solid stuff into a sweet-tasting juice.
INVOLVE THEM IN THE PROCESS
Kids like to be ‘in control’ over things. They enjoy activities where they feel like they are doing things independently. Why not go to the farmer’s market together and have them select fruits and roots that they think are good to juice. Then, push the activity more by allowing them to help in the preparing and juicing process. There are juicers like JUlaVIE that are so user-friendly without the hazards of assembly and sharp blades – perfect for family use.
MAKE IT AN ENJOYABLE HABIT
Associate juicing with some of your kids most favorite activities. For example, if your family enjoys weekend movie nights, incorporate juice as part of snacks being served. Get them used into slowly enjoying your various freshly-made juice recipes. One good thing about it is that if your kids really don’t like to eat vegetables, you can secretly add them in your juice recipes in small portions and gradually increase them later.
START IT SIMPLE
Don’t expect your kids to enjoy a glass of spinach-cucumber-apple-ginger recipe on their first try. Although this recipe is actually really good, this isn’t something a picky eater would consider delicious. Try simple one-fruit recipes first just to gauge their taste preferences (sweet-zesty oranges, mildly sweet pear and apples, or tangy pineapples). This way, you can establish a base flavor that you can spruce up with combinations of fruits and vegetables.

COVER SUBTLE TASTE
If your objective is to get your kids to get their nutrition from greens and other vegetables, the best way is to hide their flavor first with more powerful tastes like the sweetness of juicy fruits such as oranges, apples, pears, and pineapples. Most leafy greens and roots have very subtle taste so it is going to be easy to cover up with fruity flavors.

COLD-PRESSED IS THE BEST
Cold-pressed juice are made by extracting juice from fruits and vegetables without shredding or grinding them. This results in getting only the purest and smoothest fresh juice without the bits of pulp and annoying froth. Not only is it smoother, but it is also more nutritious because cold-pressing does not introduce heat and air in the juicing process. Heat and oxidation can kill off some nutrients in the juice. JUlaVIE is the first at-home open-system cold-pressed juicer that can give you a recommended serving size of optimum nutrition in less than a minute. It’s super easy to use and doesn’t require assembly or post-juicing machine cleaning (Learn more here).
Having said all of these, we still encourage you to try and serve them the real deal. Juicing can only help so much. It is just like an introductory activity to having their palates more versatile and make the taste of fruits and vegetables more familiar to them.
